‘Xauv’: pronounced “sow” is a silver Hmong necklace worn with traditional Hmong outfits. Below is a photo of a ‘xauv’ that my mother-in-law gave me. This photo was shot by Pretty Geeky for our engagement photoshoot.

Below are two ‘xauv’ that I own. I shared them recently via instagram (username: ihearthmong) and facebook. You can purchase similar ‘xauv’ at Hmong tournaments and markets. Vendors will sell these ‘xauv’ for ~$15 – $20.

You don’t have to wait until the New Year’s Festivals to wear your ‘xauv’. For a professional vibe, pair your xauv with a white dress + black blazer.
I wore this look during the 2nd part of my Hmong wedding.
And, for a more casual look, pair your xauv with a puff-sleeve pink top + skinny jeans + grey ankle boots.
How do you style your ‘xauv’? Share your looks with me at ihearthmong(at)gmail(dot)com or via facebook, twitter and instagram(username: ihearthmong). I would love to see your looks!

Hi! I’m looking for a specific Hmoob Xauv. If you remember that movie old school movie Lis Ceeb & Maiv Xis, the Xauv that Lis Ceeb wears right after Lis Pov sings his song. I wanna try & get a hold of one of those. Would you or anybody happen to know where to find it?
Hi Tou, thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, I’m not an expert in that area. Have you seen the videos from ‘niamtxiv’ on youtube? He/she has a passion for keeping Hmong history and he/she may be better at answering your question. http://www.youtube.com/user/niamtxiv.
