Tell me about yourself.
“My name is Mai Bla, the older sister of Mai & Mai Photography. My younger sister, Mai Pang introduced me to photography in 2010. Even before I bought my first DSLR, I was constantly borrowing hers and always finding opportunities to direct, style and shoot.
During the day, I work in graphic/web design and marketing. I provide creative support and help coordinate marketing projects with different departments and also work directly with clients. During my free time, I love to work out, cook healthy meals, dabble in crafts, read, update my personal blog, and enjoy photography!”
What is your inspiration?
“Everything! Inspiration is as simple as clear blue skies and puffy clouds. It’s a particularly well done commercial or piece of advertisement. It’s a scene from a movie with just the right mood, music and lighting. It’s song lyrics. It’s a well written book. I even find inspiration at the grocery store seeing product labels and package designs instead of the food they hold. It’s easy to be inspired if you pause and take note of the little details and pleasures in life!”
What tips do you have for future youth?
“It’s important to believe in yourself and to have the passion and perseverance to work at something until you succeed. When I graduated from college, it wasn’t for design or photography. Everything I know, I learned through research, hard work and practice. ”
How did your blog get it’s name?
“I created Pixels & Stories at the start of this year because two of my passions are photography and writing. It’s the perfect place for me to post up more personal pictures and stories from everyday life.”
What are 2 goals you have?
“One of my more important goals right now is to be healthier. I think it’s important to take care of yourself and your body because mental and physical health are closely related. So I make it a goal to be more active and eat healthier.
My second goal is to do more conceptual photography. I’d like to style more creative projects to shoot. I love props and I love it when pictures tell a story.”
